  1. Katie,

Howdy fellow transplanted Texan! Nice blog you have here I'll have to keep up with it. Yes my wife Sirena and I enjoy a glass of wine, and of course we enjoy the ride up Hwy 16 to and through Bandera. We live so close to Hwy 46 that we normally just cut across to Bourne and on over to Pipe Creek, and north to Bandera. Beautiful riding on two wheels. I'll catch you here or over on Bree's blog! We'll have to have you make a special Mackinac blend of wine....LOL! So nice to see another couple from TX that love the island as much as we do. I'm originally from MI and my wife is a native San Antonio girl, and she fell in love with Mackinac Island the moment she saw it. I work overseas so we don't get to go as much anymore but we do try to go at least once a year.

Again great blog and nice chatting with you!

    1. Jason,

What part of Michigan are you from?? We did many family vacations in Michigan and almost moved to the U.P. when I was a kiddo. These days my husband and I frequent Mackinac and Traverse City (for the wine scene of course)!
I have a 3 part blog post from May 2010 when we did a Michigan road trip for our 1st anniversary. You may get a kick out of reading that. Part of it I wrote for a Pure Michigan blog!
The vineyard we visit the most down here is Bending Branch in Comfort. Great wine and atmosphere. My husband really enjoys the live music (Casey Hubble etc) and feel of Singing Waters (also in Comfort). He was in the military for a few years and they have a 'freedom' themed tasting room and everything.
Then up in Hye, TX we enjoy William Chris Vineyard. A bit more pricey but the views from the tasting room alone are worth it not to mention their vino.
Maybe someday you'll get to visit our vineyard!!!

  2. I am originally from the Flint/Davison area. Though I grew up a lot in Gaylord and Traverse City. My family had property in the UP near Engadine. It was all sold off after my grandparents past. My wife and I are planning to buy a summer cottage somewhere around St. Ignace though. I'll have to check out your 3 part blog you mentioned.

There are some good wineries near New Braunfels out on 46 or maybe its FM1863 when we are headed to Gruene. All the best to you and your husband and thank him for his service for me. I served as well in the Air Force.

Take care and we'll catch you here or over on Bree's page.
